Virgin warns of credit card fraud

Fri, 23 Sep 2005

Virgin credit card holders are being warned of a new scam designed to trick customers into revealing account details online. Several credit card customers have received e-mails in which they are requested to fill out credit card information on what transpired to be a rogue link designed by fraudsters. Credit card holders reacted in response to warnings of online accounts being terminated if they did not log in within five days. Details of the initiator of the website have now been tracked down by Virgin and passed on to the National High Tech Crime Unit.

The credit card company is also said to be consulting its credit card supplier, MBNA, about issuing a warning to credit card customers alerting them to the situation. "We'd just like to confirm that Virgin Money never send out e-mails to customers asking you to disclose confidential information online. If you get such an e-mail, don't respond to it, or click on any link in it," the credit card company warned credit card customers. The scam started on Sunday night and Virgin is unsure about how many credit card customers have received the e-mail.

While several people have contacted the company so far, only two credit card customers are reported to have entered their details onto the rogue link.
