Free shoes through credit card spending

Shoe shopping with the Blue credit card from American Express could result in hundreds of pounds in cashback, according to the credit card company.

The credit card firm claims that its Blue credit card holders can get a minimum of £800 cashback on their footwear shopping, as research published in Grazia magazine shows that the average woman spends some £80,000 on shoes in her lifetime.

If such a shopper used the Blue credit card for all these purchases, she could buy 20 extra pairs of shoes with the money earned through cashback, according to the credit card provider.

"Women clearly love shoes with their hearts and soles and should think about booting out their current credit card and stepping out with the American Express Blue," says the vice president and head of UK product management at the credit card company, Katherine Whitton.

"After all, what woman could resist an extra 20 pairs of shoes for free?" she asks.

The Blue credit card offers one per cent cashback on almost all credit card purchases, as well as twice that in the first quarter of using the credit card.

It has an ongoing variable interest rate of 6.9 per cent on purchases and the same interest rate on balance transfers.

The credit card offers online account access and an online fraud guarantee against unauthorised credit card payments.
