Tue, 18 Dec 2007

New research has revealed that people are planning to spend more on Christmas shopping this year than in 2006.

According to Sainsbury's Credit Cards, consumers in the UK are likely to spend £11.85 billion during the week before Christmas - £2.1 billion of which will be put on credit cards.

Donald MacLeod, head of cards at Sainbsury's, said: "Credit cards can be a safe and convenient way to do your Christmas shopping and some provide great rewards for using them."

However, as there are a variety of different types of credit cards available, it is "important" that consumers choose the right one for them, he added.

In related news, consumer magazine Which? recently suggested that credit cards were a better option than store cards .

Paul Davies, head of money research at the publication, said that people should "ignore" store cards as there are "much more competitive" credit cards available.
