Barclaycard offers cash-back on Valentine's Day credit card purchases

Wed, 07 Feb 2007

Barclaycard has announced that it will offer people money back on chocolates, jewellery and flowers bought for loved ones in the run-up to Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day takes place on February 14th and until that date the credit card provider is offering cash back to customers who buy items at chocolatier Thorntons, jeweller H.Samuel and flower company Interflora with their credit cards.

This money will be automatically credited back to the credit card account in their April statement.

Cash-back will be capped at a maximum figure of £50 per credit card user.

Amer Sajed, UK managing director of the credit card company, explained that the promotion was intended to encourage people buy presents for their partners.

"We've teamed up with three of the country's leading retailers of Valentine's gifts to give our customers this great offer," he said.

"With up to £50 cash-back available, our customers can spread a lot more love for less."

Barclaycard was the first credit card to be launched in the UK.

Borrowing from an idea already common in the US, the credit card was officially launched in 1966 when banking institution Barclays posted more than a million credit cards out to its customers.
