Barclaycard has officially unveiled its new range of credit cards that are designed to appeal to ethically-aware consumers.

The new credit card, Barclaycard Breathe, promises to donate 50 per cent of all profits to projects across the globe designed to reduce carbon emissions, guaranteeing a £1 million donation in its first year.

Even the plastic used to make the credit cards will come from greener sources, Barclaycard claims, with the company hoping to appeal to a growing number of consumers who feel a strong desire to use eco-friendly products.

According to statistics from the firm, 66 per cent of UK consumers feel guilty about the impact they might be having upon the environment when shopping.

Amer Sajed, managing director of UK cards at Barclaycard, said "Barclaycard has a long history of innovation as the first UK credit card provider and I’m delighted to launch another UK first.

"This card helps customers do their bit in the fight against climate change."

Sean Gardner, chief executive of MoneyExpert, praised the cards after their launch, calling them a "genuine breathe of fresh air" in the marketplace.
