Tue, 13 Nov 2007

A new study has found that the number of credit card users in Northern Ireland has climbed considerably. A consumer intelligence report indicates that some 45 per cent of people over 15 in Northern Ireland own a credit card .

The credit card study by Mintel shows an increase by 50 per cent since the 2001 and the present. Mintel Ireland went on record as saying that credit card consumers in Northern Ireland have access to as much as £1.4 billion in credit.

Predictably, with Christmas on the horizon, credit card spending is likely to soar. Speaking for Mintel Ireland, Julie Sloan reportedly commented: "There is a growing body of evidence to indicate that many consumers across Northern Ireland are using credit cards to tap into a lifestyle they otherwise couldn't afford."

The report was entitled Credit Cards: a Nation in Debt.
