New research has highlighted that Brits prefer to use credit cards over cash for everyday purchases.
A study by Sainsbury's Bank showed that people spend a collective £3.64 billion on their plastic monthly, with many transactions being below £20.
It was found that many of these individuals clear their balances each month, with people aged over 55 being the most likely to do so.
The research also showed that as many as 12 million credit card holders are not earning any rewards for the money they spend on their cards.
Donald MacLeod, head of cards at Sainsbury's, commented: "Unfortunately, recent research reveals that one in two credit card users do not see any financial benefit as their cards don't offer any financial rewards."
Figures from MoneyExpert.com, compiled for the Daily Telegraph, reveal that some 4.5 million people have not cleared their credit card debt from Christmas 2007.
