Shopping this Christmas means being careful, whether you are using online stores or shopping in the high street. As well as credit card fraud, many businesses are on the brink of collapse and this could in turn hurt the consumer.
Brad King of compareandsave reportedly commented: "There is a risk that people may be buying goods from businesses that are likely to collapse during these difficult economic times. We have seen examples of this with the collapse of Britain's third-largest tour operator, XL Leisure, in mid-September and the more recent casualties on the high street. Consumers need to protect themselves as much as possible."
Using a credit card means that your goods are covered up to a certain value when shopping online . If the firm you purchase from goes out of business, you have the right to reclaim the money from the card issuer. Credit cards with extended warranty can also help to protect against theft or damage.
