Credit card rewards not being used

Thu, 17 Jul 2008

According to a recent study, the majority of people who have reward systems linked to their credit cards are not claiming the rewards .

Research from Sainsburys Credit Cards has found that of the 8.19 million people with rewards attached to their credit card, just 3 million have actually claimed them.

Often, the credit card holder does not claim the reward because it has too little commercial worth. Furthermore, respondents said that the redemption process takes too long and many said that it was too difficult to redeem rewards.

The Head of Cards at Sainsbury’s, Donald Macleod, reportedly commented: "Our research shows that the credit card industry has a lot of work to do if customers are really going to feel that their reward schemes are worth having. There is no point offering them if there is no perceived value or if it is too difficult to redeem the rewards."
