No income, have a credit card

Thu, 19 Jun 2008

Almost five million borrowers have been provided with credit cards by lenders during the last five year period, with no check on income .

The situation indicates a potential mountain of risky credit card debt . Millions of credit card borrowers around the country have been given credit cards without giving the lender proof of income.

The YouGov poll, which was commissioned by uSwitch.com, surveyed over 4,000 people to reach the conclusions. Whilst many borrowers simply were not asked about their income, thousands more simply lied to get more credit.

The study indicates that credit card debt in the UK could be heading for a dangerous situation, as household budgets become increasingly pinched.
