Pin warning over credit card fraud

Credit card customers should do more to protect themselves against fraud , one industry body has claimed.

According to the UK payments agency Apacs, many credit card owners select Pin numbers that are easy to guess, leaving themselves open to the risk of theft.

A spokesperson for the body said: "Our advice is that you should make it as difficult as you can for anyone to be able guess your Pin, but obviously there is a balance between you being able to remember your own Pins."

If they can, people should try and make sure they have different Pins for each of their credit cards, she added.

People should never disclose any security numbers or passwords for their credit cards to anyone else, the representative concluded.

A recent study by consumer group Which? found that around half of the 4,000 consumers it polled use just one Pin for all their debit and credit cards .
