More than a million children are shopping online without their parents' knowledge, often using mum or dad's credit card to do so, according to new research.
A study by anti-credit card fraud company CPP found that just two per cent of parents think that their kids could buy something over the internet without them knowing.
However, it also reveals that one in five children are able to buy goods because their guardians are leaving their credit card and other financial details saved on the PC .
Michael Lynch, fraud expert with the firm, said: "If they're not saved on there, children can just get their parent's credit cards from purses or wallets because they leave them lying around."
He warned that parents are being very naive when it comes to their credit cards and online shopping .
Recently, a study by UK payments association APACS found that total debt and credit card fraud losses in 2007 stood at £535 million.
This is an increase of 25 per cent when compared to 2006 levels.
