According to recent reports, leading credit card companies in the UK have struck an agreement to share credit card data to help identify those customers that are struggling with debt .
The sharing of behavioural data by top credit card providers Barclaycard, Capital One, GE Money, HBOS and MBNA will start from next month on a trial basis.
Currently, credit card companies already share data on customer balances, credit limits and whether their customers are keeping credit card payments up to date.
The new agreement will see companies sharing data down to the finest details. The head of card payments at APACS, Paul Rodford, reportedly claimed that sharing data would give a clearer picture of how customers used their credit cards .
