Credit cards for cashback

Mon, 20 Oct 2008

According to a report in the credit card news, British households paying for their living costs exclusively on debit cards could be missing out on hundreds of pounds per year in credit card cashback .

An American Express Platinum Credit Card study found that some 92 per cent of British people are facing higher costs of living, with an average extra expense of between £600 and £1200.

The Vice President of UK Lending at American Express, Tom Allder, reportedly commented: "We're on a quest to get UK householders to ditch their debit card payments . Each British household is paying out thousands of pounds a year on debit cards for everyday items such as supermarket shopping and petrol . Simply by changing the way they pay for these items, people could be earning themselves hundreds of pounds of free cash."

"We want to change the way people think about credit cards ...they are a great way of earning money on all your spending, particularly in the current economic climate when every penny counts. The majority of household spending can be paid using a credit card ...not just supermarket shopping and petrol, but council tax, home and car insurance, utility bills and childcare cost ."
