According to the UK payments association Apacs, billions of pounds are spent every year on credit cards in DIY stores. Do-it-yourself handiwork is a major hobby in the UK, and between August 2007 and July 2008, some £11.87 billion was spent in DIY shops using credit or debit cards .
Apacs found that of the DIY transactions they reported, some £5.3 billion were made using credit cards . The average individual transaction was worth a little under seventy pounds.
The director of communications at Apacs, Sandra Quinn, reportedly commented: " Plastic cards are one of the most popular forms of payment in the UK and the last decade has seen a rapid rise in their popularity, with consumers enjoying the ease and convenience debit and credit cards bring."
