Zero per cent credit cards recommended for Christmas

Mon, 07 Dec 2009

Consumers hoping to avoid lingering debts in the New Year have been advised to put their holiday spending on a zero per cent purchase credit card .

The Independent said that there are a few deals offering credit cards with zero per cent interest on all purchases for 12 months currently on the market, such as Tesco's Clubcard Mastercard .

Such options will allow Brits to cover the costs of Christmas without using up their December salary or dipping into savings, according to the newspaper.

David Black, banking expert at Defaqto, told the publication: "If you have a good credit rating, think about changing your credit card to take advantage of a zero per cent introductory purchase offer. That way, you can spread the cost of Christmas without paying interest."

A new campaign by charity Citizens Advice will see credit card provider Barclaycard join in the awareness raising initiative to stop people falling into debt over Christmas, it was recently announced.
