Credit card customers could lose their Airmiles

Mon, 16 Feb 2009

According to credit card news, millions of credit card holders could see the Airmiles they have collected through using their credit cards for shopping lost if they fail to collect any more in the next six month period.

Airmiles are the longest-running loyalty programme in the UK, and they have written to 1.7 million customers with 500 Airmiles or more but have not collected more in the last two years, to warn them to collect more Airmiles in the next six months or risk having their accounts closed.

The Travel Editor of the Independent, Simon Calder, reportedly commented: "That's a bit like having a bank account where you're told, 'Ah, well, you haven't put any money in it for a couple of years so we've closed it down and kept your money.'"

Some six million people in the UK have an Airmiles account.
