Consumers planning to put the cost of Christmas on a credit card should apply now before rates are hiked in the run up to the festive period.
According to Moneynet.co.uk, Brits have two options available to them – take out a zero per cent purchases credit card now or apply for a balance transfer product, using existing plastic for Christmas spending and switching the debt later on.
However, the site warned that time is of the essence because there is a delay between sending off an application for a credit card and actually having it in your hand.
Andrew Hagger, spokesperson for Moneynet.co.uk, said: "If it's going to take you a couple of weeks to get [the credit card], you're going to be pretty close to Christmas, so you'll have to do that pretty quickly."
Moneysupermarket.com recently revealed that 17 per cent of Brits are planning to put the costs of Christmas on a credit card .
