Major high street Bank Barclays have been exposed as the most complained about bank in the UK, with credit cards, loans and current accounts the most complained about. Insurance and payment protection insurance also topped the list of complaints.
Barclays was complained about 8,000 times during the first half of this year, according to the Financial Ombudsman Service, bringing it to the top of the table. The first half of this year saw a record 69,841 complaints, with Lloyds, RBS, Abbey and HSBC all heading the table.
Trust in banks and other financial institutions has been destroyed by the credit crunch. Consumer champions have allowed consumers to see ways in which to fight back against banks, such as reclaiming credit card charges .
