A finance expert has urged holidaymakers to plan for their spending before they set off for their Easter breaks .

It will not be long before people make their getaway and, with the pound struggling against other currencies, moneysupermarket.com has given advice on making the most of a budget while abroad.

The website's recommendations for debit and credit cards include the Zero account from Santander and the Nationwide FlexAccount as they have no charges when used within the European Visa Region.

Bob Atkinson, travel expert at moneysupermarket.com, said: The fall in the value of the pound means that it is more important than ever to ensure you're getting the biggest bang for your buck.

With Easter just over a month away, a little planning ahead can save a considerable sum and give you more spending power when abroad.

Research by Santander recently found that Britons wasted £122 million in foreign exchange fees when they used their credit cards abroad.

Overall, British people spent £1.5 billion on credit cards overseas in 2009, with one in five using it as their main means of payment when travelling .
