Even
though many Brits will be depending on their credit cards to get them through
the financially difficult weeks after Christmas, nearly two million say they
are fed up with the poor service they get from their card provider.
But not
all credit card companies are serving their customers badly. High street giant
Marks & Spencer's M&S
Money Card, which offers 0% on purchases for 15 months, topped the uSwitch
survey for customer satisfaction, followed by Co-operative Bank and American
Express.
At the
other end of the scale, Vanquis
- which offers cards to those whose credit records mean they can't go to
traditional operators - and Bank of Scotland were bottom of the table for
customer satisfaction, closely followed by high street giants Barclaycard,
HSBC, Halifax, Lloyds TSB and Santander.
The survey
also found that Britons are cutting back on the number of cards they hold, with
a quarter having three or more cards compared with a third last year.
And
despite gripes about customer service, more than a third of those interviewed
had never switched their cards while a further quarter hadn't switched for more
than five years.
This will
be a concern for card companies which are falling over each other trying to
tempt in new customers with deals.
In recent
months, the battleground has been focussed on the length of 0% balance transfer
deals with Barclaycard
currently winning with 24 months interest-free.
