Financial Services > Credit Cards > Reclaim Credit Cards Charges > How far back can I claim?
People in England and Wales can force their current or old credit card provider(s) to repay the last six years of charges (five years for Scottish credit card holders) as long as they have a record of all the fines they’ve been charged on each credit card.
Some people may find they have not kept hold of all credit card statements dating back this far. If this is the case they must then write to their credit card company and request a fully comprehensive list of all past charges.
Companies are legally required to send this information under the Data Protection Act. Unfortunately, they are allowed to charge administrative costs for doing so, up to a maximum of £10 for the whole lot.
It is also possible for people to reclaim charges on credit cards that they no longer use, but at a cost of £10 per card.
